Description
What the Defender 238LM does at your storefront door
The Defender 238LM turns the most common small-business storefront door in America — aluminum frame, glass panel, Adams Rite-style deadlatch — into a smart access point. The 238LM mounts on the exterior, works with your existing deadlatch (it doesn’t replace it), and supports six credential types: mobile app over Bluetooth, RFID fob, time-based PIN, 3D fingerprint, scan-to-open QR, and physical key. The result: you stop rekeying when staff turn over, you stop driving over to let cleaners in, you get an audit log of every entry, and you can run unstaffed hours that grow revenue without growing payroll.
Where the 238LM fits: gyms, boutique retail, restaurants, salons, studios
Gyms and fitness studios going 24/7. Boutique retail tired of rekeying after staff turnover. Salons, studios, restaurants, and coffee shops issuing time-bound access to cleaners and vendors. Coworking and small offices in mixed-use buildings that need per-user audit trails. Healthcare and clinic storefronts managing after-hours staff access. Anywhere a standard aluminum-frame glass storefront door is the entry point and the operator wants smart credentials without ripping out the existing lock body.
Defender 238LM compatibility — the 30-second storefront door check
Designed for aluminum-frame glass storefront doors with an existing Adams Rite-style 1-1/8″” deadlatch. Three things to confirm before you order: (1) the existing lock is a deadlatch, not a deadbolt or hook bolt — though deadbolt-to-deadlatch retrofits are doable as part of the install; (2) the inside has a lever or push paddle (ADA/IBC egress compliance); (3) the operating height is between 34 and 48 inches off the floor (ADA Section 404.2.7). If anything is off, certified installers in our network handle the retrofit as part of the job.
