Why the update? We’ve noticed that more people are visiting our site from phones and tablets, so we’ve optimized our site to account for the different screen sizes and load times for mobile visitors. 1-800-Unlocks is now using a fully responsive design that makes it easy for our mobile visitors to navigate our listings and contact a verified locksmith.
Google’s Focus on Mobile First Indexing
Since 2015 Google has been rolling out a mobile-first indexing update to their search algorithm. Google Software Engineers explain in this post from Google’s Webmaster Central Blog:
“To recap, our crawling, indexing, and ranking systems have typically used the desktop version of a page’s content, which may cause issues for mobile searchers when that version is vastly different from the mobile version. Mobile-first indexing means that we’ll use the mobile version of the page for indexing and ranking, to better help our – primarily mobile – users find what they’re looking for.”
What does Mobile First Indexing mean for Local Locksmith Businesses?
Local Locksmith websites could miss out on valuable leads by not using a responsive website. Google Searches are an important lead generator for many small businesses. If Google sees that a site is not optimized for mobile devices it’s algorithms could rank that site lower in the search engine results pages. A lower ranking will make it harder for visitors to connect with your business which could directly affect your bottom line.
