Description
What the Guard Latch Z-Wave 679LZ does for multifamily portfolios
If your multifamily property runs on a Z-Wave-based access platform, the 679LZ joins it natively — the lock’s Z-Wave Plus radio communicates directly with your building’s Z-Wave hub (Alarm.com, SmartRent, Brivo, or similar). No Wi-Fi hub required. Property managers issue credentials through the building platform; the lock reflects them. Move-out triggers an automatic revoke. Z-Wave also means the lock doesn’t depend on each resident’s WiFi being healthy — communication runs through the building hub.
Where the 679LZ fits: Alarm.com, SmartRent, Brivo, and other Z-Wave properties
Multifamily portfolios standardized on Alarm.com, SmartRent, or Brivo. Apartment buildings whose existing access platform speaks Z-Wave. Office buildings with a building-wide Z-Wave hub. Anywhere the existing infrastructure is Z-Wave and a per-unit smart lock needs to plug in natively without parallel WiFi.
Z-Wave vs WiFi for multifamily smart locks
Three reasons. First: each resident’s WiFi reliability is out of your control; Z-Wave runs on your building hub. Second: building-wide platforms (Alarm.com, SmartRent, Brivo) standardize on Z-Wave. Third: Z-Wave is more power-efficient than WiFi, so battery life is longer in real-world use.

Buying and installing the 679LZ Z-Wave
Z-Wave inclusion to a building hub is not intuitive for most installers. Buy from 1-800-Unlocks. Installation is optional — many residential and small-property owners install themselves with the included documentation. Multifamily portfolios and commercial deployments typically prefer certified installation; reach out and we’ll connect you with a certified locksmith for a per-door or portfolio quote.
